After what some may consider careers in consulting and logistics, we quit our jobs, sold our stuff and left Germany to be full-time travelers and development volunteers. This blog is about our travels, our work as volunteers and our alternative life strategies - always looking to make an impact and to find the meaning in what we do or put some into it if we can't find any. -

River Rafting and Volunteer Consulting

“I met this guy on a water taxi”, my friend John said. “He’s starting a business with bamboo rafts on a river. He asked me if I would like to go rafting with him one day and be very critical about the experience. That’s when I thought I should ask you guys.” It took us […]
Bird watching: Toucan invasion!

Belize has a national animal (Tapir), a national tree (Mahagony), a national flower (Black Orchid) and a national bird (Keel Billed Toucan). I was able to scratch Tapir, Mahagony and Black Orchid off of my list months ago, shortly after getting here. But that Toucan … just didn’t want to show! And it’s not like […]
Videoblog: A day in the aquarium / Ein Tag im Aquarium

Our friend Frank celebrated his birthday with us in Belize. Usually he goes to visit an aquarium on his birthday. Since there are no aquariums in Belize, we did the next best thing: We threw him into one. First we flew him over to Ambergris Caye on a little Cessna plane. We were met by […]
Business Trip in Belize

Monday and tuesday this week I took a 4WD suzuki around Belize on a recycling trip. We met with 12 hotel owners and managers in Cayo. Some were easily accessible. To get to others you had to go 4, 6 up to 12 miles on an unpaved dirt road through the jungle. Fortunately we didn’t […]
Geschäftsreise in Belize

Montag und Dienstag dieser Woche war ich mit einem Allrad-Suzuki unterwegs in Sachen Recycling. Wir sind 12 Hotels im Cayo District abgefahren. Einige lagen an geteerten Straßen. Für andere musste man erst 4, 8 oder 12 Meilen unbefestigte Wege durch den Dschungel fahren. Man schafft ca. 4 Meilen pro Stunde – also schnelle Geh-Geschwindigkeit. Meine […]
Birds, Flowers, Maya: The Lodge at Big Falls

“Bird watching is like watching paint dry, just not as exciting” I read in some blog the other day. Sums up what I thought about bird watching before we got to the Lodge at Big Falls and Rob Hirons took us around. Doing something is one thing – having someone show you how to do […]

The animals of Banyan Bay

If you read our blog regularly, you’ve already seen us at the Villas at Banyan Bay and know that it’s one of our favorite places on Ambergris Caye for relaxing, diving, eating, swimming etc. Here’s a video of us hunting Moray Eels – also featuring the resident Iguanas. And a cool soundtrack.
