When I was a kid, we always went to the Lochmühle for my Birthday.
The Lochmühle is a little theme park close to where I grew up. It had a few attractions like a tiny roller coaster, some trampolines and a big slide.
But – more importantly – it has a lot of water.
Kids love water – a love which I personally have never shed.
So when you’re in a country that has hundreds of small cayes surrounded by water, where do you celebrate a kid’s birthday?
Exactly.
After a 1 hour quick and nasty work out (crossfit cardio then full body drop sets) we arrived at the Radisson Marina at 9:15 (after a nasty call from Dionne – THE GERMANS ARE LATE WHAT IS GOING ON?!?!?!). Big Boat. 134 guests. All ready to go.
When the boat took off at 10:00, Kerstin and I talked about the recent daylight saving switch in Germany, agreed that 18:00 pm is a good time to start and got ourselves some beers (with Sprite).
The sun was scorching as we made our way to Goff’s Caye.
By the time we arrived not even an hour later, every part of our body that hadn’t been covered, was burned. I don’t mind fake brand clothing or badly pirated movies by now. But badly pirated sun screen, come on people! That’s just mean.
Once we get there, the food starts. Barbeque chicken, hot dogs, sweets.
By the way – how do you fix barbequed chicken for 130 people?
Like this:
After lunch, we beered up and hung out.
In the water.
In the shade of a palm tree.

Then someone wakes me. Come quick! Once I get under the palapa, there’s a child with a broomstick in her hand and a fierce look on her face. Rabies? On this island?
But it turns out that it’s a Pinata – 50 lbs. of sweet stuck inside of something that is not a transformer but looks like a transformer and since I am almost 30 years old I feel that I am entitled to describe it with things from my times.
The kids go at it with the broom stick. The adults make sure the kids don’t kill each other while swinging.

Then we have cake. Good cake. Tastes like the white part of German tree cake, if you know what I mean. No? Remember to have some tree cake when in Germany!
As the afternoon comes around, a spontaneous photo shooting breaks out. It’s fun. For a couple of minutes, until we flee back under the shade – the sun’s just too hot.

After a few more beers and rums the cat takes off again. It takes about half an hour to count all the children.
As we reach Belize City, most kids are asleep on their parents.
What a party.
Looks like y'all had fun! Thanks, as always, for keeping us informed on Belize.
