Hurricane Rina – Tuesday/Dienstag

Kerstin is on stand-by at the Red Cross. Holger just evacuated himself from the Cayes this morning to make sure he is at least in Belize City ‘in case of’. The official wording is ‘evacuation is voluntary’… you can make your own interpretation of that.

Kerstin haelt sich beim Roten Kreuz bereit. Holger hat sich heute Morgen mal eben selbst von San Pedro (Insel) evakuiert umd zumindest in Belize City zu sein ‘fuer den Fall der Faelle’. Offiziell ist ‘Evakuierung freiwillig’ auf den Inseln. Wie auch immer man das interpretieren soll.

Hurricane Rina is currently a big topic in Belize. On the one hand it increased it’s strength to a Categroy 2 Hurricane since yesterday (since it is a) moving very slowly -3mph and b) staying over water it has perfect condition to get stronger and stronger). On the other hand, most models predict, that it will go up north and no longer directly affect Belize *Yaayy*.

Hurrikan Rina ist derzeit Top-Thema in Belize. Einerseits hat er/sie an Staerke zugenommen und ist nun ein Kategorie 2 Hurrikan (da er/sie sich weiter ueber Wasser bleibt und zudem sehr langsam ist – nur 5km/h). Andererseits zeigen nun die meisten Vorhersagen, dass er/sie nach Norden ziehen wird und Belize daher wohl nicht direkt treffen wird. *Juhuu*

In case there is a cold front coming from up north, this might influence Rina and push it down again in our direction, but as of now it does not seem so. *Crossing fingers* Still interesting how different the wheather institutions predict it.

Falls aber noch eine Kaeltefront von Norden sich ueberlegt nach Sueden zu druecken, wuerde diese Rina doch noch zu uns schicken. Bisher sieht es aber nicht so aus *Daumen druecken* Aber schon interessant wie unterschiedlich die einzelnen Institutionen den Verlauf interpretieren.

As of now we prepare for heavy wind and rain ‘only’; the side-effects of Rina. Quite an interesting week considering that we still have sunshine, warm temperatures and only some wind. Currently we experience this Hurricane solely from the internet…

Bisher rechnen wir nur mit Sturm und Regen als Nebeneffekt von Rina. Eine interessante Woche wenn man bedenkt, dass wir bisher weiterhin Sonnenschein, T-Shirt Wetter und nur etwas mehr Wind hier haben und der Hurrikan eigentlich nur im Internet existiert…
